SAVANNAH – Mary Lillian Simmons Kaapa, age 77, died Friday, September 19, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center after a long battle with Diabetes and heart problems. Born October 12, 1930 in Bulloch County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband John N. Kaapa and her oldest son Russell M. Doughty.
Ms. Lillian #4 worked for 20 years at Larry's Restaurant 1980-2000 and at the White House Restaurant in the early 1950's and again from 1969-1980.
Leaving in her loving memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mickey Hohnerlein of Savannah; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Chris Kaapa of Savannah, Joseph Kaapa of Pembroke, and Jerry and Elizabeth Kappa of Bloomingdale. Ms. Lillian had 17 grandchildren and 14 ½ great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very close companion, Lois Free, who helped her through two years of sickness.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Monday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammuel P. Hohnerlein, Michael J. Kaapa, John A. Kaapa, Fred Free, Edward Simmons, Robert Simmons, and Larry P. Cory.
Remembrances may be made to Azalealand Nursing Home, 2040 Colonial Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.
